The National Portrait Gallery tells the story of Britain through portraits. Schools hub is a free online learning resource designed to support the study of Art & Design and History through the world’s largest collection of portraits. We welcome Early Years, School and College groups to the Gallery for self-led visits, exhibition visits and learning sessions.

Early Years learning sessions from the National Portrait Gallery

Our two new one-hour Early Years workshops are aimed at Nursery and Reception groups. Portrait Makers focuses on artists’ materials and choices while People in Portraits builds visual literacy and critical thinking skills. In both sessions children look closely at real portraits, experience the exciting atmosphere of the Gallery, and get creative in the Mildred and Simon Palley Learning Centre.
